Yeah, they had to add an extra server at release and they still all stay pretty full most of the time. It doesn't help that the game encourages you to stay online all the time since you can do afk things like fishing, autopathing to level up your max weight limit and stamina, horses, horse training and also your workers and crops stop if you go offline. Oh, and your energy regens slower offline, too. So…yeah, there's no reason to ever log off. RIP electric bill lol
Yeah, it's a bit overwhelming at first. But it gets really fun, there's SO much to do.You can fish, gather, hunt, cook, alchemy, farm, trainer (go out and catch wild horses and then breed them to make higher tier horses), hire workers to craft and gather for you, trade (kind of like Archeage, buy trade packs from vendors and then trade between cities and towns, you can also build your own boats and wagons) eventually you'll come across quests that will kind of guide you and show you the basics of the different professions.
Then you have the combat side of BDO. Most quests won't give combat exp, so you pretty much have to just mob grind to level. Gear and weapons aren't level restricted, so you could technically equip all the best gear on a level 1. If you get Black Stones (weapon or armor) save them. These are used to +1 your gear and are very important for late game as they're the only reason gear is viable. Max enchant level right now is +15. You can also use them on other gear and equipment too though, like fishing and crafting gear, horse gear, boat and wagon gear and it enhances stats on those as well.
Eating food will give you "health exp" and each level you get in health will increase your max hp and mp. Running around on foot will give you breath exp which will increase your overall stamina (used for sprinting, some combat skills, swimming, etc.) and finally carrying trade packs will increase your overall weight limit. You start out with being able to carry a certain amount of weight, and if you go over that value you start to run super slow (like Skyrim).
Riding horses and donkeys will level your training skill and the level of the horse you're riding.
My family name is "Andricles" if you want to add me in game.
