At first, I was really bummed that I was not able to create a character on the FC's intended server, but at the end of the day i figured it would be better to try out the game on another to see how i liked the mechanics. Ended up rolling a tiny Lafa-Gladiator because being small and tanking has always amused me. Upon arriving to my starting town I was amazed at the graphics, the game is beautiful on my pc and considering the amount of people running around I was really impressed with the lack of lag that occurred.
Initially I followed the game along running errand boy quests around the city for about 5 minutes until i got bored and decided to go kill stuff. I'm not really bothered by the 2.5 cooldown time when solo-ing and the only time techniques look too flashy and overwhelming is when completing a FATE with a huge turn out.
For most of 1-15 level I felt like i was playing EQOA again, running around killing x mob for y item and pushing from zone to zone itching for my next ability to be unlocked. The 1-15 grind was okay for awhile but eventually it got boring or maybe it was too easy, there were times I found myself fighting mobs 3-5 levels above me just to see if i could take them down and I was able to. Aside from the story mode quest with duty battles involved.
The game finally picked up around level 15 when I got my airship pass and was able to go to other cities and view their architecture, also during this time the duty finder opened up and I got to go on some group instances. Tackling these in group modes were fun and this was really when I started to enjoy the game and the group mechanics. The interactive battles with some of the bosses were interesting as well.
So I guess in short I'm looking forward to enjoying the game now that i'm 15-20, but i'm not looking forward to re-rolling a toon on the correct server and having to go through the story and conversations again. I wish the early levels had some more challenging content but i understand why it doens't in this day in age. So i sit, eat my gummy worms, and wait for early access and pvp.
Yeah, you can think of 1-15 as a tutorial basically. Some might even consider 1-20 a tutorial as they use that to kind of introduce new people to grouping and boss mechanics and stuff.
Yes, It plays as a tutorial. SE seems to focus on the holy Trinity of Tank/DPS/Healing. They have obviously invested a lot of time making sure people know how there jobs work before advancing. Leads me to believe there will be complicated strategies and balanced required at end game. But I guess we will find out.
^^^ lol i actually didnt even get to play on cactuar until this morning when i had a saga of insomnia and in last minute effort to have some kind of character started for early access, i managed to get a marauder going lol.
