I have no problems at all with either of my 560ti cards. They're actually different makes too. One is MSI and the other is EVGA but I haven't overclocked them or anything.
i've always thought the 70s were the sweet spot of nividia gpus minus the 460s which were amazing. the extra money in the gpu couldn't hurt if other things can be cut back
my 560ti in my workstation at the office runs well, never really had issues with it. it really depends on the manufacturer imo. tbqh i have more issues with my 5870 at home than the 560…
I found during the stress test that the loads were alot higher on my cpu than gpu. To the point my cpu was overheating while the gpu ran cold. x.x Something to keep in mind.
Keep in mind that a lot of developers leave optimization of GPU usage till last minute so CPU's tend to get heavily strained during betas. Someone said this was true and I accepted it completely because I am highly susceptible to suggestions. It may have been Freelancer on TL. Can't remember.
Looks good to me. He probably doesn't plan on overclocking anything I'm guessing? So he wouldn't need K series or an aftermarket cooler. If he doesn't need a ton of storage space then SSD is a good choice. But 128gb might be a bit limited. Windows 7 will take up about 20gb and GW2 is about 25gb. If he doesn't plan on doing much else than playing GW2 on it then it should be fine though. If he does end up needing more space later he can probably pick up a cheap 500gb storage drive around black Friday.
