Yeah, I was pretty set on Ranger, but watching some videos and seeing the pets kind of turned me off. They seem very unresponsive a lot of the time, and sometimes they just downright don't do anything at all. I mean it's still beta so I'm sure they'll still be tweaking pet AI. But relying on computer AI for a portion of my effectiveness is a bit unsettling.
I also want to play a Charr, and Charr as Ranger just doesn't really seem to fit in my opinion. They look good in heavy armor though and I'm really liking the style of the Warrior more and more with the banners and stuff.
I think what happens is that, in most of those videos the pets are dead. When they are dead they'll follow you without doing anything, waiting to be resurrected.
But in some cases, in videos showcasing Ranger gameplay outside the chaotic dungeons, they did seem a bit unresponsive. Let's hope they polish it in the next betas, I'm looking forward to playing it.
But what really struck me was, the fact that all classes look really fun to play. I never thought mages were fun, even in GW1, this time around, I think I'll have fun playing anything.
Still, can't change my roots and am going to play Thief most of the time.
I usually play ranged classes in MMOs because they usually seem to have an advantage over melee. But for small scale PvP in this game, it looks like melee will actually shine for once. Between all the different gap closers, dodge, heals, conditional removals, cc's, and side strafing being slower than normal running, it seems it will be pretty hard to kite a good player in this game.
