Picked this up recently. It's pretty fun, seems pretty polished for still being an early access title and they're constantly adding new stuff.
It plays a lot like an MMO, but it's a pure sandbox. Craft a bunch of shit, build anywhere. You can tame any dinosaur to use as a pet to fight with you and/or some can also be used as mounts if you craft saddles for them. Game can be pretty unforgiving.
Started on a PvE server to get a feel for the game, but even on PvE servers your character stays logged into the game when you log out, so people can loot and/or drag your body around, and you can be killed by mobs, so it's important to have some kind of base built that you can log out in.
When you die on regular servers, you can respawn and you keep all of your levels and everything you gained, but you lose everything that was on your body. You can run back and find your body and get your stuff back, but other people can also loot all your stuff. If you play on a hardcore server and you die, you're dead completely. You lose all of your levels and everything and you have to start a new character. On PvP servers, you can attack anyone and destroy and structures they've built.
They recently added a new game mode called "Survival of the Fittest" which is a Hunger Games style battle royale match and is 2 hours long or last man standing, whichever comes first. Exp and gathering is highly accelerated so it's a race to get geared and tamed up to prepare for the
There's a spectator mode and this guy shoutcasts some of the matches
Was watching a match where some dude tamed a flying dinosaur and a T Rex. He would fly around on his flyer, pick people up with it, and drop them in his T Rex's mouth. Shit was legit, you can do so much in this game.
